Alexandra Stiglmayer (Germany) is one of ESI’s founding members. From 2006 to 2021, she worked for ESI as its Senior Analyst in Brussels and General Secretary. For ESI, Alexandra dealt with asylum/migration, visa liberalisation, the Western Balkans, Turkey, Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe. As a journalist, Alexandra had covered the wars in former Yugoslavia from 1992 to 1996 for German and US media including Time Magazine. During that time, she also wrote a book about war-time rape of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1997/1998, Alexandra was based in Berlin for Time Magazine. From 1998 to 2002, she worked for the Office of the High Representative in Sarajevo as the chief spokesperson and head of the press office. Following three years as a speechwriter on climate change and environment issues for the European Commission, she joined ESI full-time in 2006. In 2021, she decided to take on a new challenge, which is to work on Cyprus’ reunification and support for the Turkish Cypriot community at the European Commission.
